DURHAM, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team placed 10th at the Rod Myers Invitational, which concluded Monday at the Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,154 yards).
Senior David Stanford led the Hokies, recording a career-best performance. The Vienna, Va., native tied for seventh behind a career-best 4-under 212 (70-70-72). Stanford racked up nine birdies and one eagle over his 54 holes.
As a team, Tech compiled an 8-over 872 (291-289-292).
NC State took home the team title, carding a 22-under 842 (288-278-276). Duke was the runner-up at 12-under 852 (285-281-286).
NC State’s Nick Mathews, the brother of Virginia Tech women's golfer Emily Mathews, captured the individual title, finishing at 14-under 202 (70-64-68).
The Hokies play next at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The three-day tournament, hosted by the University of Arkansas, is Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Blessings Golf Club.
