NEWTON, Mass. – Virginia Tech dropped its first ACC matchup of the season with a 3-1 loss at Boston College on Sunday at Newton Campus Lacrosse & Soccer Field.
Sarah Rosenbaum scored her first goal as a Hokie in the loss. She became the 12th different goal scorer for Tech this season.
How it Happened
Tech’s controlled momentum from the get-go and recorded three shots on goal in the first nine minutes of action. The Hokies finally capitalized on their chances in the 24th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Anna Weir delivered a beautiful ball into the box that found Sarah Rosenbaum for a header to make it a 1-0 Hokie lead. It is Rosenbaum’s first goal in a Virginia Tech uniform.

Tech continued to control the game throughout the first 45 minutes and into the second half. The Hokies had a chance in the 53rd minute to extend their lead but a missed penalty kick by Natalie Mitchell kept it a 1-0 contest.
Through 70 minutes of action, the Hokies had outshot the Eagles 10-0 and had held them to no corner kicks.
Boston College netted a header of its own in the 71st minute to tie the match. Not even six minutes later, the Eagles took the lead with a converted penalty kick. Despite the Hokies battling back and looking for the equalizer, the Eagles scored a third goal in the 87th minute to take a 3-1 lead.
