BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football is back in Lane Stadium for Week 4, with fans packing the stands for the White Effect and Military Appreciation game. Hokie legend and New York Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor is also in attendance today, showing support for his alma mater. At halftime, the Hokies find themselves in a tightly contested battle, trailing the Scarlet Knights 16-7.

Running back Bhayshul Tuten powered in the Hokies' first touchdown with a 23-yard run down the right side, marking his fifth rushing score of the season and extending his streak to six consecutive games with a touchdown. Tuten closed out the first half with a 31-yard rush, bringing his total to 72 yards, continuing to lead the team on the ground.

Wide receiver Jaylin Lane and quarterback Kyron Drones have maintained their strong connection, which has been vital for the Hokies in recent matchups. Lane recorded two receptions for 38 yards, including a critical 34-yard catch that helped set up Tuten’s touchdown. Drones is once again being a dual threat, adding 22 rushing yards to his 70 passing yards, effectively moving the ball both through the air and on the ground.

Defensively, the Hokies have come up big with several key plays to disrupt Rutgers’ offensive momentum. Cornerback Mansoor Delane made a pivotal play late in the second quarter, forcing a fumble from Rutgers receiver Kenny Fletcher, which was recovered by linebacker Jaden Keller with just three minutes left in the half. Delane has also posted a pass breakup and two solo sacks.

Keonta Jenkins, Jaylen Jones and linebacker Sam Brumfield have all contributed with pass breakups. Early in the game, Brumfield and defensive lineman Cole Nelson teamed up for a sack on quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, forcing a four-yard loss on Rutgers’ first drive. Safety Mose Phillips III continues to lead the team with five sacks, anchoring a strong defensive effort.
