CHARLOTTE, N.C. - On Tuesday afternoon, the ACC announced the recipients of the week two cross country awards. The Virginia Tech men's cross country team swept the male award options as Nicholas Kipchirchir was named the Male Freshman Performer of the Week and the Male Performer of the Week.
The Hokies opened the cross country season on Friday, September 6 with the Virginia Tech Invitational where the men and women both claimed first palce team finishes. Nicholas Kipchirchir claimed the title for the men's 6k with a 17:43.5.
The event win was the first of Kipchirchir's collegiate career, and as a freshman, he defeated 79 opponents in the competition field.
Kipchirchir and the Hokies will be back in action on September 20 at 9 a.m. in the Hokie Invitational at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.
