BLACKSBURG – For a second straight season, Virginia Tech running back Bhayshul Tuten has been named to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award. The award is annually presented to the nation’s best college running back.

Established in 1990, the award is named after SMU running back Doak Walker, who played for the Mustangs from 1945 to 1949 and later for the Detroit Lions from 1950 to 1955.

Tuten’s first season with the Hokies was an impressive one, as the tailback recorded 863 rushing yards on 173 attempts along with 10 rushing touchdowns on the year. His presence when returning kicks was also felt, as the Paulsboro, New Jersey native’s 19 returns accounted for 550 yards and two touchdowns over 13 games.

An additional 27 passes were caught by Tuten, gaining him 239 yards in the air along with receiving touchdowns against Purdue and Pittsburgh. His versatility earned him All-ACC Third Team running back and All-ACC Second Team All-Purpose recognition.

Tuten will represent the Hokies as they travel to FirstBank Stadium in their season opener against Vanderbilt on Aug. 31. Make sure to lock in your tickets for the home opener before they sell out this fall.
