Soundbites: Vanderbilt Postgame Press Conference

by Shawn Stevenson

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football spoke to the media following its Week 1 matchup at Vanderbilt. Head coach Brent Pry and wide receiver Jaylin Lane stepped to the podium to address the team's performance and the mentality heading into the next week. Read and watch below to see what they had to say:

Head Coach Brent Pry

Thanking Hokie Nation for their presence in Nashville:
"I want to thank all our fans that made the trip. It was awesome. So many Hokies in town, donors. Just a really good turnout for Virginia Tech. We just didn't put our best foot forward. We'll learn from it, and we'll be a better team Saturday."

On the offensive performance in the second half:
"Yeah, I thought we looked more like ourselves. That looked like the offense that we're capable of being. We're spreading it around, different guys getting the ball and misdirections. Creating some plays where we got wide-open wide receivers. I mean, great job, Ali running down the sideline. That was the second time he was wide open like that. We didn't see him the first time. And we had to drop across the middle there, another wide-open guy. But I thought that's who we need to be, right? We got to make him defend a lot."

Wide receiver Jaylin Lane

On the offensive identity and mindset:
"I feel like we're never gonna lose our identity. We just gotta take the positives and the negatives from this game and build off both of them. So, you know, we can build off this, so we can take advantage of whatever we see next week against Marshall."
