BLACKSBURG – Punter Peter Moore will wear the No. 25 jersey when Virginia Tech football opens its season at Vanderbilt this Saturday. Tech’s season opener will be the fourth time the Maryland native has carried on the legacy of Hall of Famer and former Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer.

Moore first wore No. 25 in his redshirt sophomore season against Wofford. The following year, Moore represented the Beamer legacy in games against Pittsburgh and in the Military Bowl against Tulane. When he suits up in the jersey this Saturday, he will become one of only two Hokies to wear the jersey four times, joining former defensive back, Chamarri Conner.

Moore punted 60 times for 2,588 yards and averaged 43.1 yards per punt over 13 starts last season. The 6-foot-1 punter served as a team captain in 2023 and will continue as a special teams captain this fall.

The weekly tradition of wearing No. 25 started in 2016 and has continued each season. Each week, a member of the special teams wears the number to recognize how influential Frank Beamer was to Tech football both as a player and a coach. The jersey number was retired in 2002.
