Thomas announces elevation of Katie Kennedy to assistant coach

BLACKSBURG - Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Ben Thomas, has announced the evelation of Katie Kennedy to Assistant Coach.  

In her new role, Kennedy will assist with the cross country and track and field programs as a distance coach.

Since 2018, Kennedy has served the track and field and cross country programs as the director of operations, managing all internal and external efforts of the programs.  Among her primary duties were budget management, meet management, NCAA compliance, and team and travel logistics.  

Prior to starting full-time with the programs, Kennedy was an intern with the New York Road Runners Media and Public Relations department where she assisted with press operations for events and played a significant role in in the coverage for the TCS New York City Marathon and the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile.

From 2014 to 2018, Kennedy was a member of the track and field and cross country programs at Virginia Tech. She was a two-time cross country team MVP and a member of the 2018 Indoor NCAA Championship DMR Team that finished third overall and collected All-American honors.  She also collected back-to-back All-NCAA Southeast and All-ACC honors in her final two cross country seasons.

Katie has been a vital part of our program's success; both from her exploits as an All-American athlete and as our director of operations. Her multiple championship experiences will serve her well as an assistant coach and mentor to our athletes. Very excited to have her winning abilities and can do work ethic continuing to serve our program!
