BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech kicked off the season with a 4-0 victory over Campbell on Thursday night at Thompson Field.

The Hokies were electric in their home opener with four players scoring a goal and eight players recording a point. Additionally, Ava Arengo and Kylie Marschall scored their first career goals.

How it Happened
The Hokies got off to an explosive start and controlled possession for most of the first frame. Virginia Tech threatened with eight shots in the opening minutes before Anna Weir put the Hokies on the board. With a dime of a pass from Emma Pelkowski from the other side of the field, Weir chipped it over the goalkeeper’s head and scored in the lower left corner to make it a 1-0 contest.

With just over two minutes remaining in the first half, the Hokies struck again. A corner kick from Kendall DiMillio perfectly set up a Kylie Marschall goal to make it a 2-0 game headed into halftime.

Tech’s momentum carried into the second half. In the 56th minute, a foul by Campbell allowed Natalie Mitchell to perfectly execute a free kick straight into the far left corner of the box to extend the Hokie lead.

With a 3-0 lead, the Hokies continued to control the game. With just under a minute remaining, Ava Arengo netted her first career goal off a pass from Viv Pope to give Virginia Tech the 4-0 win.

The Hokies defense was on full display as well– holding Campbell to just two shots throughout the contest and earning a shutout.
