HONG KONG – Virginia Tech lacrosse’s Jody Chu (China) and Anne Bryan (United States) are tabbed to represent their home countries at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship.
Chu, a Chantilly, Va. native that will join the Hokies in the fall following two seasons at Canisius, will represent China as a goalkeeper.
In her rookie campaign, the Virginia native established herself as a starter and earned All-MAAC Rookie Team recognition. Protecting cage in seven wins in 2023, along with amassing a team-high 40 ground balls (ranking 20th nationally in ground balls per game), Chu twice was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and three times the MAAC Rookie of the Week.
Starting all 18 games for Canisius in 2024, Chu led her squad to 11 wins (the most since 2019). She posted a goals against average of 9.95, the third-lowest for a single season in program history and was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in her career on Feb. 12.
China opens play against Israel in the international competition at 12 a.m. ET on Thursday, August 15.
Bryan, an Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Medicine, serves as Tech lacrosse’s athletic trainer and will assume a similar position with the United States team in Hong Kong.
In 2024, the Camp Hill, Penn. native was named the Virginia College and University Athletic Trainer of the Year. She was integral part of Mary Griffin’s journey back to the playing field after her cancer diagnosis in the fall of 2020.
The United States’ journey begins on Friday, August 16 at 8 a.m. ET as it faces Germany.
Both Hokies will meet on Sunday, August 18 at 5 a.m. ET when their teams wrap up Group A competition versus each other.
