BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech rising junior Toibu "Tobi" Lawal has been selected for training camp with the Great Britain senior men's national team, July 5-12.

The training camp is in preparation for the Subway Summer Slam, a major summer event which will feature Great Britain squaring off against 2024 Paris Olympics qualifier South Sudan on July 18 at the Copper Box in London, England.

The team will also play exhibition games against Argentina and Portugal on July 13 and 14, respectively, ahead of their big home fixture in the capital just a few days later.

"This summer will be a huge opportunity for us as a program to take meaningful and significant steps forward in achieving our aims," Great Britain head coach Marc Steutel said.

“The in-season competitive windows don’t allow for the team to have an extended period together, which is critical when developing the team to compete at the highest level longer term. We are looking forward to welcoming newer faces into the group along with returning experienced members of the squad."

Lawal enters his first season with the Hokies after spending his first two years at VCU. He averaged 7.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2023-24, while shooting 66.7% from the hardwood.
