BLACKSBURG – Ahead of Virginia Tech men’s soccer’s 53rd season of varsity competition, head coach Mike Brizendine announced the 2024 fixture list on Wednesday.
The fall slate consists of 10 matches at Thompson Field, along with eight games (home and away) against 2023 NCAA Tournament teams.
Virginia Tech opens its season at home against North Florida on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., a match that will be the inaugural meeting between the two sides. The Hokies return to Thompson Field on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. for a tilt with UNC Asheville.
The Hokies wander from Blacksburg for the first time on Monday, Sept. 2 to face Kentucky, a team that has made six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
Tech hosts Presbyterian on Thursday, Sept. 5, in the first leg of a Hokies soccer doubleheader with the women’s team. On Sunday, Sept. 8, the squad heads to Furman for a final 5 p.m. tune-up before ACC play.
Conference competition starts for Virginia Tech in Syracuse, N.Y. on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. against the Orange, the 2022 national champions. The Hokies’ away form will continue to be tested the following Friday, Sept. 20, as they face ACC newcomers SMU in Dallas, Texas.
After three weeks away from home, Tech will take on Pitt on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. That matchup starts a nine-game run towards the end of the season that includes seven home games.
The Hokies welcome Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m., the second meeting between the programs after Tech secured a 3-2 victory last year in Charlotte, N.C.
On Friday, Oct. 4, the 2024 installation of the Commonwealth Clash will take place in Charlottesville, as the Hokies face Virginia.
The following week, Tech hosts NC State on Oct. 11 in Blacksburg for the first time since a 3-0 victory in 2016. A quick turnaround will see the Hokies welcome Winthrop to Thompson Field on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Virginia Tech takes the road for the final time in the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 19 against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Hokies’ three-game home run-in starts on Friday, Oct. 25 against Duke, followed by a Tuesday, Oct. 29 clash with Davidson. Tech’s regular season finale falls on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. against reigning national champions Clemson.
