NEW YORK – Quarterback Kyron Drones has recently garnered considerable acclaim, as CBS Sports ranked the Pearland, Texas native, fourth among college football's top 12 most dynamic quarterbacks for 2024. This ranking, which highlights the best dual-threat quarterbacks, was determined through a comprehensive evaluation of film review, insider analysis and projected 2024 statistics. Drones' standout abilities have earned him a spot among the elite, showcasing his impact on the field.

The Baylor transfer excelled in his inaugural season as a Hokie, finishing with 2,084 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, and 818 rushing yards, second only to running back Bhayshul Tuten. Demonstrating his versatility, Drones set Virginia Tech and Military Bowl records with a record-breaking 176 rushing yards in the 41-20 victory over Tulane. He capped off the season by earning the Military Bowl MVP title, contributing 91 passing yards and two touchdowns against the Green Wave.

Throughout the season, Drones had many strong performances building up to his standout game at the Military Bowl. One of the most notable was against Wake Forest, where he recorded his first career 300-yard passing game with 321 yards, completing 20-of-29 passes and throwing two touchdowns. The dynamic athlete's connection with Jaylin Lane, one of the highest-ranked returning ACC wide receivers, for a 75-yard touchdown pass marked his longest career completion.

The redshirt junior showcased his dual-threat capabilities again against Pitt, becoming the first Virginia Tech quarterback since 2017 to total five touchdowns in a game, with three passing and two rushing. The Hokie threw for 228 yards, completing 12-of-19 passes, including two touchdown passes of 54 and 53 yards, earning him ACC Quarterback of the Week honors. On the road against Boston College, he achieved his first career 100-yard rushing game with 135 yards while completing 12-of-17 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns.

These displays, among others, cemented Drones' reputation as a multifaceted quarterback. His ability to make plays off-script and power through tacklers after initial contact showcases his unique skills and resilience, leaving a lasting impression in his debut season at Virginia Tech. The redshirt junior's ongoing development suggests continued contribution in shaping the team's future successes.
