LYON, France – Virginia Tech rising sophomore Valentine Delon hoisted the 2024 French Ladies Championship following a 1-up victory over Camille Min-Gaultier, Sunday at the Golf Club of Lyon. The Paris, France, native won five straight matches en route to the tournament title.
In stroke play, Delon fired rounds of 70 and 74 to tie for fifth at even-par 144 and lock up the sixth seed for match play. Delon nearly cruised to the championship match, which included a 5&4 quarterfinal win and a 6&5 semifinal win. In the 36-hole final against Min-Gaultier, Delon erupted for 12 birdies – seven on the first 18.
With the match all square through 18 holes, Delon birdied three of the first five holes in the second 18 to build a 1-up advantage. After carding a bogey on the par-4 27th hole to drop to 1-down, Delon recorded back-to-back birdies on holes 28 and 29 to regain the 1-up lead. Delon parred in to secure arguably the biggest win of her young career. Over the 36 holes played in Sunday's final, Delon shot the equivalent of 10-under-par.
