Hokies season ends after dropping elimination game against Grand Canyon 4-1

Freshman Emma Mazzarone was dominant on Saturday, fanning nine Grand Canyon hitters over six innings of work, but it was not enough as the Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the Antelopes 4-1.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --Freshman Emma Mazzarone was dominant on Saturday, fanning nine Grand Canyon hitters over six innings of work, but it was not enough as the Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the Antelopes 4-1.

In addition to her nine strikeouts, Mazzarone (9-3) tossed six innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits and walking four for Virginia Tech (40-14-1).

In the batter's box, the Hokies were paced by freshman Annika Rohs, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double. Junior Bre Peck put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Hokies first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Rohs came across to score the lone run of the inning for Virginia Tech and get them on the board. The Hokies were unable to get any closer, as Grand Canyon added one run to their tally on the way to a 4-1 final.
