Azallion paces Tech at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Daniel Azallion posted a 3-over 216 (71-73-72) to tie for 27th and lead the Virginia Tech men's golf team at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, contested Monday and Tuesday at Birdwood Golf Course (par 71, 7,116 yards).

The fifth year student from Hilton Head Island, S.C., joined teammate Charlie Hanson by recording a team-best nine birdies over 54 holes. Azallion also charted a pair of eagles, which tied for the tournament lead.

Tennessee, ranked No. 10 in the country, ran away with the team title at 27-under 825 (276-269-280). Sixth-ranked Florida State finished second at 15-under 837 (280-282-275). The Hokies tied for 13th with Maryland at 24-over 876 (293-290-293).

The Seminoles' Luke Clanton was the medalist at 15-under 198 (68-66-64), five shots clear of Bryce Lewis of Tennessee.

Tech will next head to Charlotte, N.C., for the ACC men's golf championship at Charlotte Country Club, April 19-22.
