BLACKSBURG, VA --Junior Emma Lemley had everything working on Friday, fanning nine Boston College hitters over six innings of work to help lead the No. 16 Virginia Tech Hokies past the Eagles 12-2.
In addition to her nine strikeouts, Lemley (8-4) tossed six innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on two hits and walking four for Virginia Tech (29-9-1, ).
Offensively, the Hokies were led by freshman Michelle Chatfield, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two home runs and five RBI. Senior Cameron Fagan furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Senior Emma Ritter also contributed for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Addy Greene came across to score the lone run of the inning for Virginia Tech and get them on the board.
The Hokies lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the second trailing 2-1. Virginia Tech scored twice on sophomore Kylie Aldridge's two-run homer, which brought the Hokies lead to 3-2.
Virginia Tech kept Boston College scoreless before building their lead to 9-2 in the fifth inning. The Hokies hit three home runs in the inning on the way to scoring six runs.
Virginia Tech held the Eagles without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The inning resulted in three runs for the Hokies, all of them scoring on a three-run homer from Chatfield to left, bringing the score to 12-2 in favor of Virginia Tech. The score remained 12-2 for the rest of the game, as the Hokies coasted to the win.
