Tech falls to No. 29 Georgia Tech, 2-5, Thursday evening

ATLANTA, GA – No. 61 Virginia Tech (10-9, 3-8) falls to No. 29 Georgia Tech (17-6, 7-4), 2-5, in first match of final ACC series, Thursday evening.  

In doubles play on court one, No. 63 Ryan Fishback and Maxime St. Hilaire fell to Marcus McDaniel and Krish Arora, 2-6. Despite battling back from a 1-4 deficit, Hugo Maia and Manuel Goncalves fell on court three 5-7, which clinched the doubles point for the Yellow Jackets. Matt Harper and Alberto Orso would find their match unfinished at 5-5. 

Singles play began with similar struggles, as Michael Shepheard fell in two sets to Marcus McDaniel. Georgia Tech quickly clinched the match, as No. 93 Ryan Fishback and Maxime St. Hilaire fell in successive matcheson courts one and two, respectively.  

Hugo Maia secured the first point for the Hokies in the match, splitting his first two sets before winning an extended ten-point tiebreaker, finally winning by a score of 17-15.  

Alberto Orso would take his match to three sets before falling 0-1 (9-11) in the decisive set. Alex Ix would earn Tech's second point in the final match with a 1-0 (10-5) victory in the third set.
