BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (10-8, 3-7) bounced back after a midweek loss, with a dominating 6-1 victory over Boston College (5-12, 0-9) on Senior Day.
Doubles play began on the right track for the Hokies, as Matt Harper and Alberto Orso were stalwarts on court two, winning 6-0 to begin the match. The No. 76 duo of Ryan Fishback and Maxime St. Hilaire faced a stout opponent in No. 20 Jake Vassel and Juan Jose Bianchi, falling 3-6. Hugo Maia and Manuel Goncalves, a duo with a vast amount of experience, were able to seal the doubles point for the Hokies by a score of 6-4.
Michael Shepheard would have a rough match against Jake Vassel on court three, falling in two sets as Boston College would tie the match. The tide quickly turned back in Tech's favor, as No. 89 Ryan Fishback would earn a 6-4, 6-1 victory to snap a recent losing streak.
Another senior would earn a victory in his final match as a Hokie, as Hugo Maia defeated Mai Gao in two sets on court four. This would be followed by the clinching victory, earned by Alberto Orso on court five.
Alex Ix would see himself in the sixth spot of the lineup and would earn a two-set victory over Matt Campbell, 7-6 (11-9), 6-4. The match would finish on court two, as Maxime St. Hilaire would win a decisive third set after splitting the first two. He would make the final score 6-1 after winning the third set 1-0 (10-5) to close out a successful Senior Day.
