GAME 1 | Virginia Tech 11, Louisville 1
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 20/15 Virginia Tech Hokies took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to an 11-1 victory over the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday and securing the program's 1,000 win.
Sophomore Lyndsey Grein (5-1) got the win for Virginia Tech (16-3-1, ). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing four walks and striking out four.
Senior Emma Ritter led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a walk and two RBI. Senior Addy Greene provided a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Junior Cori McMillan also chipped in, going 2-for-4 for Virginia Tech with two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Virginia Tech put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from senior Cameron Fagan.
The Cardinals then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-1 until the Hokies expanded their advantage in the fifth. The Virginia Tech offense exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of McMillan, which brought the Hokies lead to 11-1. The score remained 11-1 for the rest of the game, as Virginia Tech coasted to the win.
