Virginia Tech falls short against Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – Virginia Tech fell to Clemson, 14-5, in Saturday afternoon's ACC road clash.
 
The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Tech got on the board for the first time with 2:06 remaining in the first quarter. Isa Torres' goal was assisted by Kayla Downey, who set a new single-season assist record for Virginia Tech with her 37th assist of the year. 
 
After taking a 6-1 lead into the second quarter, Clemson added four more before the break. Mia Pozzi, who made her first appearance since March 9, scored with 29 seconds remaining in the first half . 
 
Tech split four draw controls in the third quarter, while forcing Clemson into five turnovers. However, the Hokies were held scoreless in the period and Clemson expanded its lead to 13-2 headed into the fourth quarter.
 
Ella Rishko and Paige Tyson tacked on two more goals in the final three minutes of the game.
 
Torres set a new season high in saves while protecting the cage with 14.
