Hokies punch four tickets to quarterfinals

KANSAS CITY, MO – Virginia Tech wrestling advanced four wrestlers in the championship bracket to open the 2024 NCAA Championships in Kansas City, MO. Mekhi Lewis, Caleb Henson, Bryce Andonian, and Thomas Stewart, Jr. all advanced to tomorrow's quarterfinals to secure All-American status. Tech currently sits in sixth place with11.5 points and through the first day of competition in T-Mobile Center. Brackets and event hub found at top of page.
 
 
Round of 16 Highlights

  • The Hokies punched four into the quarterfinals – quarterfinal winners secure All-American honors
  • No. 1 Mekhi Lewis defeated No. 16 Jackson Turley for the third time to secure his chance to become Tech's first four-time All-American with a win in tomorrow's opening session
  • No. 12 Bryce Andonian defeated Northern Iowa's Big 12 champion, No. 5 Ryder Downey, 9-6
  • No. 4 Caleb Henson advanced by defeating No. 20 Jordan Williams (OSU) in a battle of highly touted recruits
  • No. 7 Thomas Stewart, Jr. continues his electric run with a dominant victory over No. 23 Layne Malczewski (MSU) to advance to the quarterfinals in his first NCAA appearance
  • Tech has five wrestlers still battling back in the consolation bracket trying to find a podium finish
