BLACKSBURG – A complete performance from Virginia Tech lacrosse led the Hokies to a 17-4 win over Longwood on Wednesday afternoon at Thompson Field.

For the second time in as many non-conference games, freshman Isa Torres provided a four-goal, one-assist performance to lead Tech's goalscorers.

Torres' goal contributions alone out-scored the visiting Lancers, who scored two goals in each half. The four goals allowed were the fewest by a Tech opponent since April 11, 2023, when it held Old Dominion to the same number in an 8-4 victory.

The Hokies forced Longwood into 14 turnovers, while goalies Jocelyn Torres and Lilly Kannapell stood strong on five of the nine occasions they were tested.

Virginia Tech's separated itself from Longwood in a big way on the draw, wrangling in a season-high 22 on Wednesday. Sarah Gresham reached double-digits in draw controls for the second time this season with 11, while Olivia Vergano had seven.

All six of the Hokies' goalscorers had multiple goals, including hat tricks or more by Torres, Vergano, Grace New and Marie Cacciabaudo.

Three Tech players had multiple assists, led by Kayla Downey (3), who had her sixth game of the season with three or more assists. New and Caroline Little had two each, as well.

After giving up the first goal of the game, the Hokies rattled off four goals from Vergano, Torres and New to take a commanding lead that they wouldn't give up. Longwood would add a second before spending the next 28:18 of game time scoreless while Tech tallied 11 unanswered goals.

Virginia Tech then closed the final 15:33 of the game without conceding. Wednesday was the fifth time this season that the Hokies' defense has held a team scoreless in a quarter, but the first time since April 11, 2023 against Old Dominion that they shutout an opponent in multiple quarters.

Among the impressive defensive showing was defender Mackenzie Beam gathering her 100th career ground ball in the first quarter. Joining the defender in special century moments, Paige Tyson recorded her 100th point with an assist to end the first quarter.

Virginia Tech hits the road on Saturday for an 11 a.m. matchup with Pitt, which will kick start a three-game ACC road stand.
