Chatfield hits three homers in No. 16/12 Virginia Tech's 25-0 win against Maryland-Eastern Shore

BLACKSBURG, Va. --Freshman Michelle Chatfield put together a stellar showing at the plate Wednesday, hitting three home runs to help power the No. 16/12 Virginia Tech Hokies past the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks 25-0.

Junior Molly Jacobson (1-0) got the win for Virginia Tech (24-4-1). The right-hander went five shutout innings, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out three.

Chatfield went 4-for-5 at the plate, supplementing her three home runs with a double while driving in six runs. Senior Cameron Fagan added to Chatfield's awesome power-hitting performance by going 3-for-4 with a double, a grand slam and six RBI along with one walk. Sophomore Trinity Martin also helped out for the Hokies, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and four RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Virginia Tech hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring four runs.

The Hokies then tacked on runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fourth when they scored 11 times. That 11-run inning included two Virginia Tech home runs.
