Woes continue as Tech falls to No. 30 North Carolina, Sunday afternoon

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 65 Virginia Tech (7-5, 0-4) remains winless in ACC competition after losing to No. 30 North Carolina (9-4, 3-1), 0-7, Sunday afternoon.  

The Hokies would fail to secure a doubles point yet again, with the first loss coming on court three, as Alex Ix and Michael Shepheard would fall to Karl Poling and Will Peters, 2-6. The Tar Heels secured the point on court two, as Matt Harper and Alberto Orso were defeated by Patrick Schoen and Peter Murphy, 3-6. The No. 80 pairing of Ryan Fishback would save their weekend, defeating Benjamin Kittay and Phillip Jordan, 6-4, to finish doubles play. 

Maxime St. Hilaire would not be able to earn an upset victory, falling by scores of 2-6, 1-6, to No. 110 Phillip Jordan on court two. The same result would occur on court three, as Hugo Maia dropped his match to No. 80 Karl Poling, 1-6, 3-6, giving North Carolina an early 3-0 lead in the match. 

The Tar Heels clinched the match on court four, as Alex Ix was defeated by Patrick Schoen, 2-6, 2-6. Tech would then suffer three three-set heartbreaking losses to finish the weekend.

The first came on court six, with Alberto Orso losing to Anuj Watone by scores of 6-4, 0-6, 0-1 (4-10). No. 60 Ryan Fishback would then suffer an upset loss to No. 125 Benjamin Kittay on court one, 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 0-1 (3-10). Freshman Benjamin Pomeranets yet again faced stout competition, as he narrowly fell to No. 106 Will Peters, 6-4, 5-7, 0-1 (8-10).
