Rain washes out Wednesday's game between Tech, Binghamton

BLACKSBURG – Due to steady rain forecast on Wednesday in the New River Valley, Wednesday's (March 6) baseball game between Virginia Tech and Binghamton – scheduled for 4 p.m. at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park – has been canceled, as announced by the Virginia Tech athletic department. The game will not be rescheduled.
 
With Wednesday's cancelation, Virginia Tech (8-3, 0-0 ACC) will look ahead to its ACC-opening series against Notre Dame. Game times between the Hokies and the Irish are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday (March 8), 4 p.m. on Saturday (March 9) and 1 p.m. on Sunday (March 10).
 
All three games between Virginia Tech and Notre Dame will be streamed live via ACC Network Extra.
 
Tech is led offensively by sixth-year outfielder Chris Cannizzaro, who is batting .452 and slugging .881 with a 1.362 OPS through 11 games played. The Hokies' true freshman series-opening starter, Brett Renfrow, heads into his first projected ACC start this weekend with a 3-0 record and a 1.69 ERA.
