Stanford leads Hokies at Briar’s Creek

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The Virginia Tech men's golf team placed 14th at the Battle at Briar's Creek, which concluded Tuesday at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek (par 72, 7,175 yards).
 

Junior David Stanford led the Hokies, recording a top-35 performance. Stanford tied for 35th with a 5-over 149 (74-75). Stanford finished with 19 pars and six birdies over his 36 holes. The tournament, originally scheduled for three rounds, was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather Monday.  


Clemson narrowly edged out the field to take home the team title, carding a 1-under 575 (280-295). Chattanooga was the runner-up at 1-over 577 (294-283). 


Lipscomb's Ford Goldasich captured the individual title, finishing at 4-under 140 (71-69).  


The Hokies play next at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate in Humacao, Puerto Rico. The three-day tournament, hosted by UNCG, is Feb. 11-13 at the Palmas del Mar Golf Club.
