HARRISONBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech fell to 17-5 to No. 3/4 James Madison on Wednesday evening at Sentara Park.
The top-five ranked Dukes came out firing early and often, setting Tech back 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Tech had only one more turnover in the first period than the hosts, but James Madison made the most of its efforts on the offensive end.
At the conclusion of the first 15 minutes, Virginia Tech was held scoreless in a quarter for the first time since March 16, 2023 against Notre Dame.
Ella Rishko ended the Hokies' drought in the second quarter, however, converting a free-position attempt with 11:10 remaining in the half.
Olivia Vergano tacked another one on with 6:27 on the clock, but JMU's hot hand continued into the half, as it led 11-2 after 30 minutes.
Tech settled in more offensively in the third quarter and out-shot the Dukes, 6-3, and found the back of the net twice thanks to Caroline Little and Claire Schotta.
Kayla Downey wrapped up the scoring efforts on Wednesday night, courtesy of a Rishko assist.
Isabella Peterson paced the field for JMU with five goals and three assists. Her eight points were tied for a game-high with Kacey Knobloch, who had four goals and four assists, respectively.
