LOS ANGELES, Calif. (January 30, 2024) – The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Principal® Late Season Top 20 Watch List today on ESPN2. Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2023-24 season thus far, the list comprises of 20 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor.
Four schools have multiple players on the list: Connecticut (Paige Bueckers and Aaliyah Edwards), LSU (Aneesah Morrow and Angel Reese), South Carolina (Kamilla Cardoso and Te-Hina Paopao) and Virginia Tech (Georgia Amoore and Elizabeth Kitley).
Amoore and Kitley are perhaps the most dangerous duo in the country, averaging 39.3 points per game. The Aussie point guard is the reigning ACC Player of the Week
after leading the Hokies to two victories. At No. 22 Syracuse she led all scorers with 29 points, including six free throws in the final two minutes to put Syracuse away. She was dominant all week, returning to the court against Georgia Tech on Thursday with a 24-point, 13-assist double-double.
Amoore is averaging 17.4 points per game and 18.6 in league play this season. She leads all ACC players with 7.1 assists per game, a mark that is third in the nation.
Kitley, the two-time ACC Player of the Year is posting the best numbers of her illustrious career with 21.9 points per game and 11.0 rebounds. She leads the conference with 13 double-doubles and she already has five 30-point games. She has been the league's Player of the Week twice this season.
