CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Two Hokies were named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, the conference announced Thursday afternoon. Second baseman Cameron Fagan and outfielder Emma Ritter both land a spot on the team in their respective positions.
The Preseason All-ACC team is voted on by the league's head coaches and consists of a minimum of 14 players. Each ballot was comprised of five infielders, four infielders, three pitchers, a catcher and one utility player or designated player.
For the third consecutive year, Fagan received All-ACC Preseason honors. The second baseman started in 58 games last season and recorded a .941 fielding percentage. She was also a key component to Tech's offense, posting a .335 batting average and 42 RBI, ranking second on the team.
Fagan came up big for the Hokies, hitting a walk-off home run to defeat Clemson 5-4 at TSP in April. She also hit the Hokies' 100th home run of the season, breaking the program record, against Georgia during the Athens Regional. As a junior, she earned All-ACC Third Team, and NFCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.
Ritter received All-ACC preseason honors following a standout junior season, recording a team-high .368 batting average. She also led the team with 68 hits, 46 RBI, and 124 total bases. Ritter was ranked first in the ACC and fourth nationally as toughest to strikeout, striking out only five times out of 185 at bats. The outfielder started in 58 games last season where she recorded only one error resulting in a .987 fielding percentage last season.
She went on a 15-game hitting streak between February 18 to March 1, where she posted a total of 20 hits and five home runs. She recorded multiple hits in four of those games to contribute to her 17 multi-hit games which led the team. During her junior season she was named to the All-ACC Second Team and NFCA Mid-Atlantic Region First Team. Ritter was also named to the Top 50 Watch List for 2024 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.
