Read below for an overview of Tech's six away game opponents and important details heading into next season.

Vanderbilt
As announced by the conference on Monday, Tech will open the season on Saturday, Aug. 31, against Vanderbilt. The Commodores are led by head coach Clark Lea and ended the 2023 season on a 10-game losing streak, finishing 2-10. Multiple staff changes occurred after the season concluded, with Lea taking over defensive coordinator duties. Tim Beck was hired as offensive coordinator from New Mexico State, and Jeff LePak was promoted from analyst to special teams coordinator. LePak will benefit from a strong special teams unit that includes punter Matthew Hayball and long snapper Wesley Schelling, who were named to First Team and Second Team All-SEC, respectively.

Old Dominion
Returning to the schedule for the third consecutive season, the Hokies will face ODU after starting the 2021 season on the road in Norfolk. Head coach Ricky Rahne led the Monarchs to a 6-7 record, which included a bowl game appearance. The program earned a bowl game slot in the season finale after scoring three times in 97 seconds. They lost 38-35 to Western Kentucky in the Famous Toastery Bowl. In the offseason, staff additions included David Weeks from Tennessee to coach tight ends and JJ Laster from Western Carolina to coach wide receivers. On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Jason Henderson returns after earning first-team All-Sun Belt honors.

Duke
The first of four ACC teams, Duke will boast a new coaching staff with significant changes following last season. In December, head coach Manny Diaz was announced as the replacement for Mike Elko, who moved on to Texas A&M. Diaz now leads a team that finished 8-5 in 2023 and upset No. 9 Clemson 28-7 in the season opener. The Blue Devils also finished the year by defeating Troy 17-10 to win the Birmingham Bowl. Jonathan Patke joined as defensive coordinator from Texas State, and Gabe Infante will serve as special teams coordinator, coming from Penn State. New offensive coordinator Jonathan Brewer will be greeted by Second Team All-ACC wide receiver Jordan Moore, who finished with 62 receptions for 835 and eight touchdowns.

Stanford
In its inaugural season in the ACC after departing the PAC-12, Stanford will host Tech under the direction of second-year head coach Troy Taylor. In his rookie season, the Cardinals finished 3-9, losing all seven home games. Continuing to build his foundation, Taylor's 2024 recruiting class is ranked 25th in the country by ESPN. The program signed seven four-star recruits, including QB Elijah Brown from Mater Dei High School (alma mater of Bryce Young, Matt Leiner and Matt Barkley). The starting signal-caller will benefit from returning wide receiver Elic Ayomnor, who set the program's single-game receiving record with 294 yards at Colorado.

Miami
Traveling to the Sunshine State in back-to-back seasons, the Hokies will face off against Miami. Led by head coach Mario Cristobal, the Hurricanes finished 7-6 in 2023, concluding their campaign with a 31-24 loss to Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl. Miami added significant talent this offseason with the fourth-ranked recruiting class according to 24/7 Sports, signing 25 recruits, including the No. 19 player in the nation, safety Zaquan Patterson. Defensive coordinator Lance Guidry enters his second season with reigning ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year defensive lineman Rueben Bain, Jr. Second-year offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson also returns a marquee contributor in All-ACC First Team wide receiver Xavier Restrepo.

Syracuse
Wrapping up the final opponent from the ACC, the Orange will enter 2024 with major changes to its coaching staff. Syracuse will now be led by former defensive backs coach at Georgia, head coach Fran Brown. Brown was named the nation's No. 1 recruiter by 24/7 Sports and will build upon a 6-7 record that resulted in a trip to the Boca Raton Bowl. Elijah Robinson was named defensive coordinator after serving as the interim head coach at Texas A&M. Robinson will coach returning linebacker Marlowe Wax, who earned All-ACC Second Team honors. Running back LeQuint Allen, Jr., should benefit from the addition of new offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon, who served as the New York Giants' running backs coach after being named to the All-ACC Second Team as well.
