No. 13 Virginia Tech women's basketball is set to host No. 3 NC State on Sunday at noon ET on ACC Network, and will look to stay perfect at home this season (7-0) at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum.
Playing in its third conference matchup of the year, the Wolfpack pose an intriguing matchup for the Hokies. NC State has faced three ranked opponents this season and won two of those contests by double-digit points.
In its second game of the season, NC State defeated UConn 92-81, which was ranked No. 15 at the time. The Wolfpack followed their first-ranked win with an 18-point victory in a top-10 matchup against then-No. 8 Colorado.
The level of competition rises significantly when ranked opponents match up, and NC State's latest contest came against No. 22 Florida State on Thursday, resulting in a 88-80 overtime win at home.
Tech is no stranger to ranked opponents either. Following their ACC championship in 2023 and a historic trip to the Final Four, the Hokies were tabbed with tough matchups early in the season, including two opponents featured in the Final Four (Iowa, LSU).
In just seven games, they faced the Iowa Hawkeyes at a neutral site (Charlotte) and the LSU Tigers on the road, both of whom were ranked in the top 10.
Sunday's matchup against the Wolfpack will be the Hokies first ranked opponent they face in Blacksburg.
The home-court advantage is made possible with the support of Hokie Nation. Get your tickets now to help cheer on the Hokies.
