LOUDON, Tenn. – Senior Kobe Valociek carded a 6-under 204 (67-67-70) to tie for sixth and pace the Virginia Tech men's golf team at the season-opening Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The three-day event was hosted by Tennessee at Tennessee National Golf Club (par 70, 7,280 yards).

Tech, sparked by two of its golfers in red figures, placed sixth in the 14-team field. Following Valociek was classmate Charlie Hanson, who fired a 1-under 209 (69-72-68) to tie for 17th. The Richmond, Va., native birdied four of his first five holes to open Sunday's final round. Daniel Azallion, a fifth-year student from Hilton Head Island, S.C., tied for 29th at 3-over 213 (73-73-67).

The 10th-ranked Volunteers held off a furious rally by SEC counterpart Ole Miss to capture the team title by one shot. Tennessee signed for a 25-under 815 as three Vols finished inside the top 10.

Mississippi State's Hunter Logan prevailed in the individual race with an 11-under 199 (67-66-66).

The Hokies return to the course Sept. 18-19 at the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Cincinnati at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
