BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball team secured a three-set victory (25-22, 25-14, 25-18) against the Furman Paladins Saturday at home at Cassell Coliseum.
The non-conference win improved the Hokies' overall record to 3-0 on the season. Following the Hokie Invitational, Sydney Petersen was named the MVP, while Leandra Mangual Duran and Hailey Pearce were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Elayna Duprey finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Hokies attack. Tech got 11 digs from Iliana Rodriguez to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hokies opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-22. Virginia Tech never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Hokies took over in the second half of the frame.
SET 2 | Virginia Tech took set two 25-14 to promptly grab a 2-0 lead. The Hokies led from the opening point on in the set to secure the victory. Virginia Tech opened its biggest lead of the frame, 11 points, to finish off the set, totaling 15 kills while only registering two attack errors along the way. The Hokies hit .406 over the course of the set. The Virginia Tech offense also got a boost from four aces in the set.
SET 3 | Virginia Tech then ended the match with a victory in set number three. The Hokies seized the set 25-18. Virginia Tech took the lead for good at 9-8 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Hokies took over the lead.
