CHENGDU, CHINA – Hokie alumni, Sam Tornqvist, will compete at the FISU World University Games in Chengdu for the first time in his swimming career. Tornqvist shared his story about the hard work and training he put into this competition in an interview for the World University Games website. The full story in English can be found here.

During his interview, Tornqvist mentions how the consistent training he endured while at Virginia Tech helped him become the swimmer he is today. A combination of dryland training, weight training and swimming training, and his teammates' competitiveness pushed him to become a better swimmer.

Tornqvist was a 2022 graduate of Virginia Tech who studied Business Information and Technology. The Swedish swimmer took the title as 2022 ACC Champion in the 200 back and earned many medals while at Virginia Tech.

Now ready for his first international multi-sport event, Tornqvist will compete in the swimming portion of the World University Games, which will begin on August 1. He will take on the 50 back, 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM, 4x100 free relay and 4x100 medley relay.
