Tech concludes competition at ACC Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. – Virginia Tech concluded play at the ACC Men's Golf Championship Sunday, placing 12th with an 896 (296-298-302). The event is being contested at The Country Club of North Carolina (par 72, 7,301 yards).

Charlie Hanson led the Hokies on the leaderboard with his 5-over 221 (76-70-75) to tie for 38th. The junior led the field in par-3 scoring at 3-under-par and posted a team-high nine birdies.

Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Virginia and Duke advanced to match play, which begins with semifinals Sunday afternoon. The championship match will take place Monday morning. The Yellow Jackets totaled a 26-under 838 (274-289-275) to earn the top seed for match play. Wake Forest finished at 10-under 854 (275-290-289). Virginia and Duke both recorded a 4-under 860.

Michael Brennan of Wake Forest outlasted Georgia Tech's Hiroshi Tai with a birdie on the third playoff hole to claim the individual title. The duo finished at 9-under 207 to force a playoff.

With the Cavaliers finishing ahead of the Hokies at the ACC Championship, Virginia receives one point in the Commonwealth Clash, presented by Smithfield. The score for the Commonwealth Clash currently is 11-8 in favor of Virginia. For more information, visit here.
