Tech prepares for non-conference road trip

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women's tennis heads on the road to face Norfolk State on Friday and 11 a.m., followed by UNCW on Sunday at 11 a.m.

BREAKING THROUGH
Up until their match against No. 16 Syracuse, the Hokies had been stacking strong performances in ACC play. Tech gave No. 10 Duke and No. 1 North Carolina everything they had and then some before eventually dropping both matches, 4-3. On Friday, the Hokies pushed another ranked ACC foe, No. 54 Boston College, to the brink as well but ultimately came up short, 4-3. The pair of non-conference matches be the last of the season before Tech jumps back into ACC competition. Erika Cheng leads the Hokies compiling a 9-1 record with the one loss due to her retirment during the match. Katie Andreini has also shined producing nine wins of her own on Court 6 going 4-1 in her last five matches.

NORFOLK STATE
The Spartans welcome the Hokies coming off a three match losing streak including a tough 4-3 loss in the most recent match against Loyola last weekend. Norfolk State currently sits at 1-7 on the season with their lone win coming in their only home match against Virginia Wesleyan, 5-2, on Feb. 15. Amber Fuller paces the Spartans this season with an 8-10 mark in singles.

UNCW
The soaring Seahawks await Virginia Tech following a two match winning streak against Mount Olive and Longwood. The most recent match being against Longwood that ended in a 4-1 drubbing for UNCW. The Seahawks are 6-2 so far this season with a 5-0 mark at home. UNCW boasts three players with five wins in singles and only two losses a piece.
