Following its fifth practice of the spring, which was at Lane Stadium in front of the public, Virginia Tech football met with the media outside at Steve Johnson Practice Fields and conducted a press conference on Saturday.
Read below for some highlights of what was said.
Head coach Brent Pry
On the wide receiver depth and the core of new guys there:
"Yeah, we've definitely helped ourselves there. The room looks better. The competition. The experience. It's a combination of the guys that we recruited in, transfers and freshmen, but also the development of some guys in the room."
Wide receivers coach Fontel Mines
On if there is anything specifically he wanted to see out of the receivers in the stadium today:
"Just being able to put everything together. Then leadership and confidence and consistency all being big things. Want to see guys play with effort and that progress. It won't be perfect, but I think the guy are slowly putting one foot in front of another. We're getting better."
Wide receiver Stephen Gosnell
On the red zone 1-on-1s:
"All of the pre-practice stuff, like we'll even do pass rush, and the red zone 1-on-1s, everyone usually has a lot of energy for that. It definitely starts the practice with a lot of energy. It gets everybody's blood flowing and adrenaline going."
Wide receiver Jaylin Lane
On the first couple months of being in Blacksburg:
"It's been amazing. Honestly, the guys, offense, defense, whoever it is, they all have accepted me and took me in, just like I've been here for years. It's been a great experience."
