Peck hits grand slam in Virginia Tech's 9-5 win over Chattanooga

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Sophomore Bre Peck collected four RBI to help power the No. 11 Virginia Tech Hokies over the Chattanooga Mocs 9-5 on Saturday.

Sophomore Molly Jacobson (3-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Virginia Tech (25-6). The right-hander went six innings, giving up five runs, allowing one walk and striking out four. Sophomore Emma Lemley also threw well for the Hokies, coming on in the seven to throw one scoreless inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Peck went 2-for-3 with a grand slam to lead the team with four RBIs for the Hokies. Junior Addy Greene also knocked a home run, adding a walk and two RBI. Senior Grace Chavez helped out as well for Virginia Tech, adding two walks and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Virginia Tech scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Jayme Bailey's single.

The Hokies then held the Mocs scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. Virginia Tech scored three runs in the frame, led by a two-run homer from Greene, which brought the Hokies lead to 5-0.

Chattanooga narrowed Virginia Tech's lead to 5-2 before the Hokies stretched the advantage to 9-2 in the fifth inning. The Hokies got a grand slam from Peck off sophomore Izzy Alley to cash in four runs in the frame. Chattanooga put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Virginia Tech took the 9-5 win.
