 Memorable Games

Oct. 28, 1989 – Virginia Tech 30, Tulane 13 (Blacksburg, Va.)
Virginia Tech last defeated Tulane at home in Lane Stadium, scoring a total of 30 points while holding Tulane to 13. Assistant coach Billy Hite led the team as the active head coach in place of Frank Beamer. Quarterback Cam Young had 98 passing yards, connecting with wide receiver Myron Richardson on an eight-yard touchdown, and scored a 1-yard rushing touchdown to break the tie between the two teams. Leading the Hokies in rushing yards, running back Vaughn Hebron accumulated 118 rushing yards, with his longest run going for 58 yards. Hebron also led the team in receiving yards, totaling four receptions for 45 yards. Tech's defense also put on an impressive performance, with linebacker Jock Jones intercepting a pass from Tulane quarterback Jerome Woods and returning it for a 55-yard touchdown. Fellow linebackers Al Chamblee registered two sacks and Randy Cockrell recorded two interceptions, along with five total tackles.

Nov. 3, 1984 – Virginia Tech 13, Tulane 6 (Blacksburg, Va.)
Tech staged a remarkable comeback against Tulane, securing a 13-point victory. Tulane, only managing to score six points, found themselves tied 3-3 with Tech at halftime. The Hokies seized control in the second half, propelled by a two-yard run by running back Maurice Williams and a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter by kicker Don Wade. Tech's defense proved to be formidable with four sacks and thwarted any comeback hopes by Tulane's offense after a one-handed interception by cornerback Leon Gordon in the last 30 seconds of the game.

Nov. 5, 1983 – Virginia Tech 26, Tulane 10 (New Orleans, La.)
Hokies quarterback Mark Cox ran for a two-yard touchdown in the first quarter and later completed an impressive 55-yard pass to wide receiver Steve Ellsworth in the fourth quarter, leading the Hokies to a 26-10 victory over Tulane. Kicker Don Wade played a crucial role in securing the win, making a 26-yard field goal, a 40-yard field goal, and a 25-yard field goal to seal the victory following the game-changing interception. Virginia Tech gained 248 rushing yards, with the Hokies' defense limiting Tulane to just 18 total rushing yards. Tailback Otis Copeland led the rushing attack with 73 yards on 25 carries.
