PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Matilda Ekh hit seven 3-pointers and totaled 25 points, and the Virginia Tech women's basketball team took down the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 84-59 on the road Sunday.
Ekh added five rebounds and six assists to her 25 point game to lead the Hokies (8-2). Georgia Amoore helped out with 18 points, eight assists and two blocks and Olivia Summiel chipped in with a double double off the bench with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Virginia Tech offense was very productive from deep, knocking down 17 threes on 37 attempts. Ekh was the most prolific shooter for the Hokies, draining seven treys in the contest.
The Virginia Tech defense held Rutgers shooters to just 30 percent from the field. The Hokies also kept Lisa Thompson to 2-of-13 shooting and eight points in the game. The Scarlet Knights did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only nine offensive rebounds and scored 10 second chance points while Virginia Tech pulled down 30 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened
Virginia Tech entered the second quarter tied at 13-13 after a tightly contested first period. Virginia Tech got out and ran in the period, scoring three points on the break.
Rutgers then took a 15-13 lead before Virginia Tech responding by going on an 11-0 run, highlighted by a three from Ekh, to take a 24-15 lead. The Hokies proceeded to tack on five points to that lead and enjoyed a 38-24 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech was strong from deep in the period, knocking down seven three-point shots to account for 21 of its 25 points.
After intermission, Virginia Tech added to its advantage and owned a 56-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Virginia Tech knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 18 total points.
Virginia Tech kept widening that lead, expanding it to 78-59 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Ekh's three, to grow the lead to 84-59 with 34 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Virginia Tech fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 28 points.
