BLACKSBURG, VA --Virginia Tech held Radford to only 19.3 percent shooting from the field and the Hokies took down the Highlanders 85-40 at home Sunday.
The Hokies (7-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Elizabeth Kitley, who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Georgia Amoore tacked on 15 points and three blocks and Matilda Ekh chipped in as well with 12 points.
The Virginia Tech offense was strong from beyond the arc, knocking down eight threes on 27 attempts. Cayla King hit two treys for the Hokies in the contest.
The Hokies' defense held Radford shooters to only 19.3 percent from the field, including 26.3 percent from three-point range. They also kept Ashlyn Traylor-Walker to 2-of-16 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
Virginia Tech started out the scoring by going on an 11-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Kitley, to take an early lead with 5:20 left in the first quarter. The Hokies then added seven points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 22-4 advantage. Virginia Tech took advantage of five offensive rebounds to score seven second chance points out of 22 total in the period
Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 1:22 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 48-22, a score that would hold until halftime. Virginia Tech saw non-starters score 11 of its 26 total points off the bench in the quarter.
Virginia Tech wasted no time building on its lead, going on a 19-0 run to expand its lead further to 67-22 with 2:48 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Hokies added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 72-26 edge. Virginia Tech took advantage of seven Radford turnovers in the quarter, scoring 14 points off of takeaways.
The Hokies then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Virginia Tech took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
