GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech freshman defender Noe Uwimana was named to the 2023 ACC All-Freshman team on Wednesday, per a league release.
Uwimana, a product of the Philadelphia Union academy, was tied for third on the team in points – scoring two goals and delivering three assists. Playing on both sides of the pitch at the wingback position, the rookie made 12 starts for the Hokies in 15 appearances. Uwimana logged 90 minutes on seven occasions, including six times in ACC regular season play.
The YSC Academy graduate made his presence known early, contributing to a goal in five of Uwimana's first seven games. He grabbed nationwide attention on Sept. 22 for his game-winning strike against Boston College then proceeded to follow suit in Tech's next game with the opening goal versus High Point. Uwimana also provided the assist on the Hokies' opening goal in their 2-1 win over No. 5 Louisville on Sept. 15.
In October, Uwimana was ranked No. 26 by Top Drawer Soccer in the outlet's Top 100 Freshmen list. With his selection, Uwimana becomes the third Virginia Tech player in three seasons to be named to the ACC's All-Freshman team - joining Misei Yoshizawa (2022) and Danny Flores (2023).
