Two Things to Know
A Matchup with History
The Hokies and Eagles are very familiar opponents, with their 32nd matchup approaching this Saturday. The matchup dates to 1993, with both teams holding spots in both the Big East and ACC. Facing one another every year since the first matchup, Hokie Nation has high expectations when Tech competes against BC. In the overall series history, Virginia Tech leads 20-11, also winning Brent Pry's first game against Boston College as the team's head coach in 2022.
Bowl Game Potential
After working its way up to four wins, Tech can make its first bowl game since 2021. With the standard expectation of reaching the six-win mark, Brent Pry and company can put themselves in the driver's seat for his bowl appearance as Tech's head coach. If recent history has any inclination of what's to come, the Hokies have been outstanding against unranked conference opponents. If they can galvanize the momentum built before week 10, the Hokies would be one win away from a potential bowl berth with a victory on the road over the Eagles.
Players to Watch
Quarterback Kyron Drones: After making his first career collegiate start against Rutgers, Kyron Drones has done an excellent job commanding the offense and taking care of the football. The Pearland, Texas native set a new program record with 159 pass attempts without an interception, surpassing the record previously set by Sean Glennon. In the 2023 campaign, Drones has thrown for 1,306 yards and seven touchdowns, adding 406 yards on the ground with four rushing touchdowns.
Wide Receiver Da'Quan Felton: Since transferring from Norfolk State this spring, Da'Quan Felton has developed quite the chemistry with the Tech quarterbacks. The redshirt senior has proved to be an incredible deep-threat element for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen. Felton has amassed 346 receiving yards on 24 catches with four touchdowns. As the season progresses, he has been a consistent performer, leading the team in receiving yardage in four contests and the last two weeks. Felton's speed downfield has been on display, with receptions going for 62, 54, 39 and 34 yards, respectively.
Defensive Lineman Norell Pollard: Along the interior of the defensive line, Norell Pollard has found success in recent weeks during his senior season. The Apopka, Florida native was the highest-graded player on defense against Louisville, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF). Pollard finished with an 84.5 defensive grade and an 88.0 pass-rush grade, recording 84+ PFF grades in both categories in consecutive weeks. Pollard has 18 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks so far in 2023.
