BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's and women's basketball opened its 2023-24 seasons with a doubleheader at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. Women's basketball leads the doubleheader with a matchup against High Point. Men's basketball concludes the doubleheader versus Coppin State.

Women's basketball starts its season at No. 8 on the AP Poll following a run to the Final Four and its first ACC Championship in program history. Members of the record-setting season were presented with their ACC championship rings pregame, and the team's accomplishments were recognized with banners hanging from the rafters inside Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies started their season right where they left off, leading by 26 points at halftime against High Point. Elizabeth Kitley led all players in points and rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Georgia Amoore, Cayla King and Matilda Ekh joined Kitley as the other three Tech players to score double-digit points, with 14, 14 and 15 points, respectively. Tech went on to start the season 1-0, defeating the Panthers 90-54.Gallery: (11-6-2023) WBB: 2023 NCAA Final Four Ceremonies Men's basketball continued the night of dominant team play on Carilion Clinic Court with a commanding 100-55 victory over Coppin State. Tech outpaced the Eagles in the second half with impressive shooting beyond the arc and five players scoring more than ten points.

Junior Sean Pedulla led the team in points with 15 and added 10 assists, starting his 2023 campaign with a double-double. Center Lynn Kidd recorded a double-double of his own, grabbing 11 rebounds alongside 14 points.

With an all-around team contribution, the Hokies reached the century mark in their first game of the season. Hunter Cattoor scored 13 points, draining three shots from deep, while Tyler Nickel and Brandon Rechsteiner dropped 12 each.

Both Tech basketball teams will make their way to Charlotte for games at the Spectrum Center. Women's will tip off against the highly touted Iowa Hawkeyes on Thursday, while men's battles it out with South Carolina on Friday night.
