FORT MYERS, FL. – Virginia Tech claimed the Bonita Bay Classic crown over the weekend, as indivuals from the Hokies picked up wins against opponents from Purdue, Wichita State and Florida Gulf Coast during the last three days.
Hugo Maia went 3-0 over the weekend with a trio of straight-set wins in singles. With teammate Maxime St. Hilaire, Maia also went undefeated in doubles play.
The Hokies were dominant in doubles for most of their time in Fort Myers, as Alex Ix and Michael Shepheard went unbeaten, as well. Frank Thompson teamed up with Ilyas Fahim twice and Manuel Goncalves once in three doubles triumphs.
In singles, Maia was joined by Alberto Orso and Iz in wins over Purdue on Friday. The following day saw Australians Shepheard and Matt Harper join in on the triumphant action, along with Fahim, against Wichita State. On Sunday, Orso, St. Hilaire, Ix and Maia wrapped up their time at the event with wins against the hosts FGCU.
