Amoore, Kitley combine to score 41, Virginia Tech falls to LSU 82-64

Pledge Per Three Postgame Notes

BATON ROUGE, LA -- Georgia Amoore scored 25 points and Elizabeth Kitley had 16 more, but the Hokies fell to the seventh-ranked LSU Tigers 82-64 on the road Thursday.

The Hokies (5-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Amoore, who had 25 points. Kitley added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Matilda Ekh chipped in as well with 11 points.

Led by Kitley's five offensive rebounds, Virginia Tech did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.

The Virginia Tech defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Thursday's game, forcing 13 LSU turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 11 points on the other end of the floor. Kitley's one steal led the way individually for the Hokies.


 

How It Happened

Virginia Tech started off strong, putting together a 20-13 lead heading into the second quarter. Virginia Tech capitalized on seven LSU turnovers in the period, turning them into nine points on the other end of the floor.

The Hokies could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 35-29.

Virginia Tech's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hokies faced a 61-48 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Virginia Tech played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 19 points in the paint.

The Hokies could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 82-64. Virginia Tech took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 16 points in the paint.
