GRAND CAYMAN -- Elizabeth Kitley scored 31 points to help lead the Virginia Tech women's basketball team past the Kansas Jayhawks 59-58 Friday.
The Hokies (4-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Kitley, who notched a double-double with 31 points and 18 rebounds. Georgia Amoore added 14 points and seven assists and Cayla King added five points, four assists and three steals.
Virginia Tech utilized excellent ball movement in Friday's game, piling up 15 assists on 22 made field goals. Amoore's seven assists were the most for the Hokies.
The Virginia Tech defense held Kansas shooters to just 39 percent from the field.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-7, Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run with 4:52 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Kitley, to take a 12-9 lead. The Hokies then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 19-16 advantage.
The Hokies maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 32-31 edge. Virginia Tech scored two of its 13 total points in the period on second chance opportunities created by pulling down two offensive rebounds.
Kansas then took a 45-42 lead following intermission before Virginia Tech went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kitley, to grab a 48-45 lead with 1:00 to go in the third. The Hokies held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 50-47 edge. Virginia Tech took advantage of seven Kansas turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.
The Hokies then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter.

She became the first athlete in program history to record 30+ points and 10+ rebounds in consecutive games. She has tallied three of the eight 30 & 10 games in program history. It was also the first time in 25 years that an ACC athlete scored 30+, had 15+ reboounds and had five blocks.
