BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football's Matt Johnson will wear the No. 25 jersey during the home finale versus NC State.
Senior Day will be Johnson's first time being selected for the honor. The Richmond, Virginia native is the third linebacker and sixth defensive player tasked with carrying on Frank Beamer's iconic legacy.
"Man, it's a blessing, everything that special teams have meant to this program" Johnson reflected. "Everything is legendary, and I'm tremendously blessed to wear no. 25."
Johnson will also be recognized for his continuous dedication to the program during the Senior Day ceremony. He will join 21 of his teammates and their families as they celebrate their contributions to Tech football.
Tech retired Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey in 2002, and since the start of the 2016 season, the Hokies have been paying homage to Tech's legacy of excellence on special teams by selecting a different special teams athlete each week to wear the honorary Beamer 25 jersey.
