BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football spoke with the local media following its practice on Wednesday. Brent Pry and Pierson Prioleau elaborated on the depth and versatility of the defensive backs, while Stephen Gosnell reflected on his first career touchdown.

Read below to see what they had to say.

Head Coach Brent Pry

On the traits needed to play both cornerback and safety:
"Yeah, I think you need quickness and explosiveness. Just a guy that can really move his feet and flip his hips. You can get away with a lot. You don't have to be a 4.30, 4.40 guy if you have those traits at corner. Particularly if we can put you in the boundary if you got a little size. But I think those things, being a twitchy guy, that can be explosive out in space, I think that's probably the best trait."

Safeties Coach Pierson Prioleau

On what Nasir Peoples brings as a safety:
"Yeah, you know to be a safety man, you got to be a really instinctive, tough, smart person. And Nasir is all of those things. He understands defense, he understands progression. He's a tough guy and he's smart. So, a lot of that is a test of the success that he's been able to have on the football field."

Wide Receiver Stephen Gosnell

On the key to the offensive production against Boston College:
"I think the mentality just coming into that game. We knew what we needed to do, like pounding that run on a perimeter, blocking and all that. So, I think it was the mentality coming into that, knowing that it's just like we got to come and play. Everyone woke up excited. I remember in the hotel everybody jumped around, and music's playing. So yeah, everything just went smoothly throughout that day. I would say the mentality from the beginning, from the jump really helped for sure."
